Valve announced that Steam is getting a new feature that tracks the frames per second (FPS) and a few other improvements as well.
For now this feature is only available if you choose to participate in the Steam Client Beta, which is available if you go to Setting>Account>Steam Beta Update. Once you download this update, you can enable the FPS counter by going to Settings>In-Game and check the box for “show in-game frames/sec.” When you do that the next time you launch a game you will notice a counter in the top left corner telling you how many frames per second your PC is pushing at any given moment.
If you play all your games on Steam, it’s a really easy way to keep track of what you PC can handle and finding the right balance between performance and graphics quality.
