It's safe to say that growing up , we have all pictured what the future and technology bring. Some may envision scenes nostalgic of the Jetsons complete with flying cars and moving walkways strewn throughout your house. Echoing in the new age of technology, lies the Oculus Virtual Reality Prototype. This is our first concrete glimpse into what technologies we've previously envisioned have shaped today. The Oculus prototype is a VR headset that throws the user into a surreal reality. The issue I have is the version the company is building designed specifically for moblie users. More specifically the galaxy note 4 version. Here are some of my concerns:

  • Long term effects on the eyes- Since the headset is enclosed, you will not have peripheral vision. What happens after having the headset on your eyes for an hour? Does your eyes need to readjust to the light after usage? Wil wearing this headset damage your vision in the long term? Will it strain your neck after long term usage?

  • Usefullness- You can reallonly use this device in a private space because it hinders your vision. You would only most likely use it to watch videos. Would you really play games on it? Sure at first it seems cool, but how long can you stand the headset?

I'm sorry but I don't really like the idea of the Oculus on mobile and I'm not fond of it normally. There needs to be drastic aesthetic and functional changes in my opinion. Another thing to think about is the intergration of the Kinect fo Xbox. At first everyone raved about the features and functions of the motion/voice sensor technology. Eventually the novelty of the Kinect wore off and the ratings and sales have dropped significantly. What do you think? Would you buy an Oculus for mobile?
